Lighting Course

July 2009

We recently attended a portrait lighting course with Chris Burfoot at The Flash Centre and enjoyed it so much we decided to book the Nude Art course too.

The course concentrated on looking at the tones and definitions of the body using different lighting techniques.

So as not to upset people with full nudity I have only put up a very small selection of images taken on the day.

Athena & Nick – Chinese Church Hammersmith Wedding

The 20th June saw us at the Chinese Church in Hammersmith, London for the wedding celebrations of Athena & Nic – and what a great day we had.

We went to London on the Friday evening for the rehearsal and arrived at a very bustling church. The whole congregation was there helping get the church ready; some were doing flowers, others preparing chairs, the choir was practising, and people were cooking to keep the workers well fed – it was a real community effort and the results were worth it.

The church was an old Jewish synagogue with a balcony so there was plenty of opportunity to take pictures from above and at ground level. The Rev. Vincent Aun officiated and said we could go anywhere we wanted to – even in front of him if we wanted to, which we didn’t as although it is nice to get real good close-ups it still a religious service and should be treated with respect.

After the wedding ceremony and the wedding breakfast we headed for Regents Park, London for some informal pictures of the couple. It was the first time we had been there and I really loved the rose gardens and we got some really great images.

John & I would like to thank Rev. Vincent, the guests and congregation at the Chinese Church, Hammersmith as well as Nick & Athena for their warm welcome and for making us feel right at home even though we were one of the few non-Chinese speaking people there – thank you all

Vonnie & Chris – Aldermaston Manor Wedding

June 2009

After the engagement shoot, the bump shoot and the baby portrait session, Vonnie & Chris’s big day arrived – and what a fantastic day Saturday 13th June 2009 was.

Aldermaston church is a small church set in the grounds of Aldermaston Manor wedding & conference centre. As churches go it is not much to look at from the outside but inside the walls are beautifully painted enhanced with some stunning stained-glass windows; the wall paintings date from the 14th C and 17th C and are listed. The manor has been privately owned, used as company HQ and is now a conference centre / hotel and is a wonderful setting for a wedding venue.

The bride & groom were both georgous, as normal  , and if there were any nerves neither of them showed it. The weather was good and brought out the best in the lovely couple and their chosen wedding venue.

The only down side to the day was the phone call from the vet, that came just after the wedding breakfast, to let them know that their beloved cat, Freddie, had been run over and unfortunately had not survived. Obviously there were tears but being the star she is Vonnie was determined to carry on and our hearts went out to her.

I think you’ll agree they make a lovely couple.

Liz & Stu – Alexandra House Wedding

23rd May 2009 was the special day that Stu & Liz chose to get hitched, the wedding ceremony took place at Holy Cross Church in Chiseldon and the wedding breakfast took place at the lovely Alexandra House.

And as expected it went according to military precision planning … well that was until we realised that Liz had left her wedding bouquet in the house, thankfully the ex-solider chauffeur didn’t mind scaling up some ladders and in through an open window to rescue them. And for someone who is never late, Liz certainly had Stu a little worried when she arrived 25 minutes late!!

Michelle & Darren – Madison Hotel Wedding

May 2009

What a lovely couple Michelle & Darren are. It was second time around for the both of them and they were so happy to be doing it all again that their joy on their Wedding Day was contagious

The weather the week leading up to the Wedding ceremony was not good and the forecast for the day itself was ominous so we ordered some brollies from Pure Treats just in case but luckily we didn’t need them although it was close. Christine at Pure Treats was a gem and printed our umbrellas and sent them out all within 3 days.

With our original plan to take additional pictures at Stanton Park out of the window due to the heavy rain, we took a quick trip to the Wedding Venue, the Madison Hotel, Swindon, to have a look about and plan a few ideas for alternative pictures just in case we got washed out.

We hope they will be pleased with what we managed to achieve.

Leo – Baby Portraits

Heidi & Joe brought their newborn baby to the studio last week-end for his first baby portrait photo session. And although he was reasonably content most of the time he didn’t like being led on his tummy so poor Mum didn’t really get the shot with the angel wings that she so wanted.

Mind you we did get some other good ones instead as you can see.
